Frank “Sonny” Milano, who was born in Massapequa and plays for the Columbus Blue Jackets, and Colorado Avalanche forward A.J. Greer were arrested on Sunday, July 7 in a Greenwich Village apartment after allegedly throwing down the gloves and assaulting an acquaintance.
The incident allegedly arose after their victim tried to up-charge the group on a four-figure bill from a trendy Manhattan club. The pair were arrested at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
According to police, the victim was left with jaw and rib pain, and sustained injuries to his neck and bicep.
Both Milano, 23, and Greer, 22, were charged with misdemeanor assault and have since been released. They are due to appear back in court on Sept. 4, before NHL training camps open.
Milano was drafted 16th overall by the Blue Jackets in 2014 and played eight games at the NHL level before being assigned to their AHL affiliate in November.
Both players are currently restricted free agents awaiting new contracts, but Milano made $832,500 last season, while Greer earned $750,000, according to the sports-contract site Capology.com.
In a statement, the Blue Jackets said, they "are aware of the reports involving Sonny Milano. We are reviewing the situation and will not be commenting further at this time."
